Acne is a very common skin problem, with consequences that go beyond simply physical. Even when it is simply pimples, instead of the more severe forms like cystic acne, breakouts can affect a person's confidence, sense of well-being, and ability to go out and meet people.
Whilst teen acne is very common, people of all ages can be affected. In fact, it's estimated that 85% of people between the ages of 12 and 24 have suffered some type of acne and 20 to 40% of the adults do encounter problems with acne. In fact, some people are only being paid the first visit in their 40s!
The problems of acne stems from many reasons, which include an overactive sebaceous gland, genetic factors, or lifestyle factors such as stress, excessive dead skin, damage to the skin caused by scratching, and clogging agents trapped on the skin when cosmetics used are not totally cleansed. Acne may also occur as premenstrual flares or due to certain medications such as strong steroid creams.
So an accurate clinical examination, some analysis and instrumental investigations are essential for an effective treatment.
In our clinic besides traditional topical and systemic therapy we carry out some particular technique (utilized in France) which allows to achieve a fast improvement of symptoms and of aesthetic aspect.
Rosacea is a chronic skin condition affecting the face with following symptoms: redness of the cheeks, flushing in response to emotional or environmental triggers, sometimes red spots and pustules. The causes of this disease are unknown, but we think that there is a genetic factor and some involvement of small blood vessels. Rosecea has tendency to evolve and worsen, so it’s important to begin the proper therapy as soon as possible. The therapy includes topical medications, oral pills, diet prescription and, when it’s necessary, device treatments.
Pediatric Dermatology treats skin conditions of small patients.
There are many skin conditions which affect the skin of chidren:
- atopic dermatitis,
- seborrheic dermatitis,
- contact dermatitis,
- viral diseases (warts, herpes, molluscum contageosum, etc.),
- bacterial diseases (impetigo, pyoderma, etc.),
- fungal diseases,
- hair diseases, etc.
Dermoscopy is a non invasive procedure which allow for better diagnosis of pigmented lesions (moles) of the skin. The most of moles are harmless, but melanoma (skin cancer) can be fatal unless caught early. The dermoscopy is essential for the correct and early diagnosis.
Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD)
STD are a growing group of conditions which are transmitted by sexual intercourse. These diseases represent an important way of HIV transmission.
There are different types of infective agents:
- viral (HIV, hepatitis, genital warts, genital herpes),
- bacterial (gonorrhea, syphilis),
- protozoa (trichomoniasis),
- parasites (pediculosis).
The most of STD are curable by suitable therapies, but the early diagnosis is essential in order to prevent more difficult and dangerous conditions.
Skin cancer prevention
Skin cancer is the most common form of human cancer. It is estimated that over 1 million new cases occur annually in the USA. The annual rates of all forms of skin cancer are increasing each year, representing a growing public concern.
The two most common forms of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Together, these two are also referred to as nonmelanoma skin cancer. Melanoma is generally the most serious form of skin cancer because it tends to spread (metastasize) throughout the body quickly.
Light-colored skin, sun exposure, genetic and immunologic factors are all important in the development of skin cancer.
In the most cases skin cancer is easily detectable. Early surgical removal is the best way to treat it.
Regular self examination and periodical dermatological consultation are very important in order to prevent this disease.
In our office we have modern instrumental equipment (digital videodermatoscopy) which allows better precision in diagnosis of skin melanoma and nonmelanoma cancer.
Hand, feet and underarm hyperhidrosis treatment with botox.
Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a common disorder which produces a lot of unhappiness. Although neurologic, endocrine, infectious, and other systemic diseases can sometimes cause hyperhidrosis, most cases occur in people who are otherwise healthy. Heat and emotions may trigger hyperhidrosis in some, but many who suffer from hyperhidrosis sweat nearly all their waking hours, regardless of their mood or the weather.
Today we have non surgical minimally invasive treatment: botox injections.
A small amount of Botox is injected with a very fine needle into roughly 25 to 20 spots in each underarm (palm or foot). This may produce up to 10-12 months of relief from sweating. The injections are uncomfortable, but use of a very small injection needle makes them tolerable.
There are no particular contraindications and downtime is just some hours.
Dr. irina Poleva has necessary certifications and skills and has been practicing this treatment for many years.
Surgical removal of cysts, moles, skin cancer
The surgical removal of skin lesions (moles, cysts, skin cancer) is carried out in local anesthesia. Generally it’s just a small excision with simple suture application. Almost always the histological exam is requested.
Sometimes non surgical removal with laser is possibile for clearly benign lesions.
Remember that the scar is alway remains after the surgery, even if it’d be not so evident. So before deciding to remove a skin lesion, evaluate the real aesthetic advantage you get.
Biostimulation and biorevitalization
The biostimulation is one of the newest trends of aesthetic medicine.
The goal of this treatment is to contrast the aging process in minimally invasive way in order to prevent worsening of the skin condition.
The biorevitalization is an aesthetic treatment aiming at improvement of the skin quality and age-related signs. This kind of procedure thickens the skin, improves the tonicity, fights free radicals damage.
It consists in dermal injections of naturals substances stimulating new collagen production. The substances commonly injected are hyaluronic acid, vitamins, aminoacids, etc.
The treatment is minimally painful, but it’s possible to reduce this sensation by use of local anesthetic cream. Generally 3-4 sessions twice a month are indicated for the good result.
Before treatment After 2 session
Now it’s the most popular aesthetic treatment in the world approved in more than 80 countries.
Although the name of botox, “toxin”, could be unsettling, this drug is totally harmless if used by professional skilled certificated doctors.
The effect consists in gradual relaxing of target muscles. This leads to more rested younger appearance with the reduction of expression wrinkles without alteration of natural mimic.
The effect of botox injections appears after 4-5 days and lasts for about 4-5 months. It’s totally reversible, it doesn’t create any permanents side effects.
The treatment takes just 10-15 minutes and doesn’t request allergy test or anesthesia.
For couperose, teleangiectasia, vine spots we use Nd/Yag laser or IPL treatment.
IPL, diode-laser, alexandrite laser are very effective in hair removal. Today we have interesting systems which guarantee an excellent result in painless way.
For the skin spots erbium laser, CO2 laser or Q-swichted laser are selectively chosen by the doctor in order to remove them totally and without scars.
It’s one of the most ancient treatments, greeks and romans have already used it!
There are superficial, medium and deep peelings.
The most popular are the first two types, they are not uncomfortable, without downtime and with good aesthetic results as smoother, more shining skin with less spots and small wrinkles.
Recently very interesting combinations of different acids appeared in aesthetic market. These combinations allows for even more comfortable, like spa procedure, no redness, no burning sensations and instant aesthetic effect.
Every session (usually 3-5 session are suggested) lasts about 30 minutes. You can apply makeup immediately after.
Aptos tis the first and the biggest threads company in the world. His foundator, Dr. Marlen Sulamanidze, invented non surgical thread lifting in 1996 trying to correct the asymmetry in patients after facial palsy (hemiparesis).
So the clinical experience of Aptos company and their doctors is really unique and huge: more than 2.000.000 of patients have been treated with Aptos threads for aesthetic or neurologic problem.
The composition of these threads is genial: it’s a copolymer of two substances.
One is polilactic acid, the most powerful stimulator of collagen production.
Another one is caprolactone, a kind of drug delivery system.
Both of them are totally absorbable and biodegradable in our organism.
While caprolactone absorbs slowly in 1 year, it realeses polilactic acid which stimulates constantly the production of new collagen!
There are different types of Aptos threads. Every pack of threads has specific indication. So we can treat every single sign of aging with a dedicated thread for the skin type. There is no aging sign which we can’t improve with Aptos threads.
This method is minimally invasive, no cuts, no scars. We use local anesthesia for the comfort of the patient. The downtime is just 3-4 days for the new younger face.
The effect lasts at least 1 year.
Silhouette Soft™ threads as all types of threads fight against the ptosis, sagging skin. These threads are made by polilactic acid, so they have a good biostimulating effect.
The anchoring power of Silhouette Soft™ is due to the presence of small cones which maintain the tissue in elevated position. The procedure is minimally invasive, practically painless (we use anaesthetic solution infiltration) and with very few side effects (bruises, redness, etc.).
The result depends on the conditions of the face and the skin and lasts about 8-10 months.
Silhouette Soft™ is a good treatment for the aging of the face particularly when accompagnes other anti-aging procedures
